Description
I'd like to apologize to all CHR readers and our guest artist Alex for how long this took. Don't ask why it took so long. I have no satisfactory answers, only dark secrets! On to Alex's comments!
"Page 2: A familiar scent appears
His sword is flying into his hand from a distant star, by the way. Let me introduce you to the kids, from left to right:
Jamal is from the inner city, where his parents struggle to bring him up right in a Christian home. He lost his older brother to gang violence, and wants to make his parents proud by becoming a great basketball player, even as he struggles with his mental retardation.
Maria comes from the barrio, where her parents are going through a bitter divorce. She feels that they only pay attention to her to get back at one another. Her autism can make life hard for her, but she finds solace in her friends and her dance.
Ricky is strong little boy. Even though he has been diagnosed with cancer, he still chases his dreams with more determination than you or I will ever know, and he doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit. He loves to make his friends laugh.
As you can no doubt see, I strove to make the dialogue as ethnically sensitive as possible."
